Summary and Response

In this article, On Living Together before Marriage, from on-line website, the author, Craig Alan Myers, claims that there are a lot of shortcomings for unmarried couple to live together. Although nowadays it seems very common for young people to try it before committing themselves to a life-long relationship, it still has bad influence to their children. There is no security for those unmarried couples and their children, therefore, those children also lack of security to their home which is without marriage commitment. These are the reasons which cause the rise of crime and the stress on our social and governmental structures. The author also uses H. Norman Wright, a prominent Christian marriage counselor’s word, to show benefits of waiting until marriage to live together, including no guilt, no fear, no comparison, spiritual growth and greater joy.
I don’t agree with author’s opinion. Nowadays, the commitment of marriage is nothing but a piece of paper. This paper can’t guard our marriage because people can get divorce whenever they like. The most important thing is that their attitude to their love, not whether they have got married or not before living together.
