In William Harms’ article, she reported that it was unwisely for a couple cohabiting. She gave some statistics to prove that people who were cohabit couples would experience more partner abuse and infidelity than married couple. Moreover, they were less likely to receive assistance from family. William was trying to break the myth that most people consider that cohabit before marriage would let their relationship become more intimated. Furthermore, more and more researchers indicated that cohabiting people would easily divorce or even separate than the normal couple. Because men in cohabiting relationship were less likely to support their partners financially than are married men, causing a lot of quarrels gradually and led to divorce finally. William strongly pointed out that it was quite a bite of difference between being married and living together. And there was not beneficial for a couple cohabiting.
Although many experts suggest not cohabiting, I still consider that people should know more about their partners before marriage by living together. People can stay all day long with their lovers and look through whether their living habits are similar to themselves or not. Through cohabiting, the unmarried couples can start to learn how to be with their husband or wives harmony, leading their marriage successfully. Due to the religious regulations, some people will forbidden cohabit, but I suggest that they to think out of box. The women’ movement has started for several years, it means that more and more women are allowed and willing to express their innermost feeling. They are not confined to the conventional regulations anymore. Hence, cohabiting will be the best way for a couple to compromise with each other in this era.
