In 《Marrage-Lite》, Patricia Morgan reports several results of surveys of cohabitation in various aspects, telling the differences between marriage and cohabitation. Compared with marriage, the stability and faithfulness among cohabiting couples are weak and fragile. Moreover, economic conditions, health problems and domestic violence are possibly potential. Last but not least, the influences on children born especially to unmarried cohabitating parents could lead to much more complicated problems. Ultimately, she points general opinions that make cohabitation probable, such as finances. She suggests that marriage is actually far more than “just a piece of paper” and concludes possible advice.
I thought this summary should be adapted to not just only Western societies but all around the world even though it was hard to carry out. The chaos derived from the trend of cohabitation might affect not just individuals but the whole societies. Problems that exist in, for instance, economics of nation and education could deteriorate and give rise to vicious circles. Despite the fact that I basically agree to cohabitation before marriage in order to observe if a couple could adapt to marriage, there are still a great number of difficulties that they have to face and undergo.
