Is movie rating beneficial for children? (1)

In this article, THE PURPOSE OF THE RATING SYSTEM, written by Jack Valenti, the former president of the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), asserted that the basic mission of the rating system is to offer to parents some advance information about movies so that parents can decide what movies they want their children to see or not to see. In fact, the films produced after 60s often contain with different types of materials like sex, profanity, violence, or other subject matter that may be inappropriate for persons in certain age groups. Later on, the classification of films were agreed on five : G - General Audiences, PG - Parental Guidance Suggested, PG-13 - Parents Strongly Cautioned, R - Restricted , NC-17 - No Children 17 and Under Admitted.

In my opinion, this rating greatly helps parents to tell whether it’s the right movie or not for their beloved kids. Without the parental aide, children often get too curious to see things restricted from their sight. Indeed, the rating system is beneficial to children, what is more, it helps them to get away from this complicated world while growing to a righteous man. But still, what we need to know is that the rating system has no meaning for people like us, ratings are likely meant for parents, no one else. So, if parents don’t care and choose to let go them watching uncategorized films, it may directly affect their health in mind and cause some disease or troubles in the future.
