Should civilians possess guns legally? (1)

In the article, “Assembly package targets gun violence,” it mentioned that the assembly had approved a nine-bill package law in order to reduce illegal guns, to protect violence, and to keep children away from firearms after the incident in Virginia Tech. through this package law, the assembly also modified some parts of the original gun law. The new law put a ban strictly on guns from being sold from legal dealer to people who were unable to keep the gun. Also, the original law permitted violent felon to obtain gun after a certificate of behaving well. Under the new legislation, violent felon wouldn’t be able to possess guns after being issued a certificate of good behavior, which might not threat the safety of the public. Other laws protected children from accidental shooting. People who owned a gun must store it well and prevented kids from getting it. Also, gun manufactures altered the firing mechanism in order to prevent children hurt from accidents. One law put a ban on military weapon, which were used now by U.S. military, but everyone could get it in the legal weapon dealer. The new laws wouldn’t be able to solve the problem nationwide. The narrator urged the government to legislate the federal law in order to manage the problem entirely.

I have known the problem of gun possession in the U.S. since I knew it was legal for adults there to own a gun, but I am not aware of that the problem is so serious. However, if the government allows citizens to possess gun, it must consider the possible outcome and influence and enforce a law to deal with the problem. Once the government is unable to handle the problem, the crime rate will increase to a level which is beyond our imagination. Therefore, why not the government just inhibits all the citizens from owning the gun. Everything all has its pros and cons. We can’t just consider one side of the event.
