In the verdict on cohabitation v.s. marriage, Jeff mentions that more and more modern people choose to cohabit before marriage. Although many people claim that cohabitation will help them know much more toward their partners, some statistics prove cohabitation will easily lead to divorce. In cohabiters’ views, cohabitation’s biggest attraction is the relatively easy exit with few responsibilities. They do not have to be responsible for their children and less faithful to their lovers than spouses are. Cohabiters will choose to bail out due to they have tolerance for unhappiness in a relationship. In contrast, the marriage couples will accompany with each other and learn how to work through the difficulties. In Jeff’s opinion, the longer cohabitating couples live together, the more negative attitude about marriage and childbearing are. Therefore, he does not suggest a couple cohabit because of these reasons
Although Jeff gives some evidences to support his comment and tries to convince his readers, I still think cohabitation in a positive attitude and disagree with what does he say. I believe that a couple who is preparing to marry can try to cohabit. A couple can know whether they can adjust to their lovers’ habits or not and avoid some conflicts which may happen in the future. On the contrary, some married couples will easily quarrel and finally lead to divorce because they can not adapt to their spouses lifestyles. Nevertheless, many people believe cohabitation is sinful and regard it as the origin of commitment due to cohabiters are not regulated in the law and they do not need to be responsible to their conducts as married people do. I consider cohabitation is a best way for people learn how to be harmonious with their partners and understand how to solve the problems together before marriage. Consequently, we should use a positive attitude to see the issue due to we live in a modern society.
