Should death penalty be abolished?

In this article, Only God Should Create and Destroy Life from BBC website, it says that most of the Christians believe that in the Bible, God commanded "Thou shalt not kill". To them, there is no exceptions. A Franciscan writer says so, he thinks that “all human life is sacred and untouchable, no matter how heinous the crimes, the criminal does not lose his fundamental right to life.” In the next paragraph, it says that “in order to be consistent, humanity should remove the death penalty for murder.” And since in modern society, there are some other alternative punishments to replace death penalty, the Christians should really seek other alternative penalties, to show the major spirits of Christianity- forgiveness and compassion.

I disagree with its viewpoints. I think murders do not have the right to defend themselves of so-called “fundamental right to life.” When they committed crimes that endanger other people’s life, they lose their right to life. Why should we show any sympathy for those guilty one, when what they did was really horrible? If these people want others to “respect” their rights to live, then they shouldn’t have done any incorrect things. Why should we give these felons a second chance if they murder someone? What about the victims’ right to life? If these Christians believe that “only God can create and destroy life,” then why can these murderers destroy others’ life? I support the idea: An eye for an eye and life for a life.
