In Karen Tumulty’s article, “where the real action is…,” there are alarms from abortion-rights group and cheers of the opponents. The issue is over “ not whether abortion will exist but how.” Some polls show people would like to see some legal restriction on abortion, such as mandatory waiting period, parental- and spousal- notification requirements, and a ban on all late-term abortions. People support abortion in the case of rape, mother’s health problem, and severe birth defect. Before the restriction practiced, the rate of abortion is decline. Also, some states that laws regulating abortion make a larger decline. However, some hold different theories on that. Abortion at early stage is attributed to pregnancy tests and some alternatives to surgical abortion. The abortion-rights advocacy group point out that the government should consider the long term social effect as well. The government and two groups which hold opposite opinions upon abortion may look into more cases of abortion.
In my opinion, I agree with what the author says, “the tussel is over not whether abortion will exist but how.” I think it’s the core which people should deal with and carefully consider. The drop of the rate of abortion may result from many causes, so the government should observe the issue in many aspects. To protect human rights for life, health, ethic, and free-will is a hard task as to abortion. The medical supply and social effects following the law should be also well taken care of. How abortion should be dealt with is a really controversial issue; however, when the multitude begins and continues trying to find a way out regarding human benefits and rights, humans do make a great progress and we still have a long way to go.
